Folks, I’m all for buying local.  I’d much rather order delivery from a locally-owned company over a large multinational chain.  However…when the people that own the local company do bad things, or take no responsibility for their slum property — well, all bets are off.  The man who owns this home (and probably others on the brink of collapse) also owns the Pizza Bolis chain.  Please let them know how you feel about putting money in the pockets of a man who can do this to a neighborhood:

2726 Fox, Rear

2726 Fox, Side - Home next to it was demolished by the City.

Yet another example of an out-of-town “investor” eyesore.  Sorry for the poor picture — the yard looked like a snakepit, so I stayed on the sidewalk.

Yet another sad example of what happens when out-of-town “investors” flock to certain neighborhoods like vultures.  They leave nothing but empty carcasses behind, leaving residents to deal with the mess.

At the corner of Liberty Heights Avenue and Reisterstown Road, this house sticks out like a sore thumb, despite being situated in a neighborhood with more than its fair share of blighted homes.  A wonderful example of Baltimore architecture, it’s a shame to see this home in its present condition — it needs to be condemned and demolished.  I’m sure at one time it was a beautiful home — now it’s just an eyesore, long abandoned and neglected by a series of owners, including its current owner — Alton Ellzy, Jr.  Mr. Ellzy is the subject of multiple civil lawsuits in a few jurisdictions, not just Baltimore City.  We hope Belinda Conaway will pay close attention to this, and make sure this slumlord is fined.

Brothers Used W. Baltimore Vacant Home to House Pit Bulls

You probably remember the sad tale of poor Phoenix, the pit bull that suffered 3rd degree burns at the hands of two Baltimore teens.  What you may not know is that the two boys, twin brothers Tremayne and Travers Johnson, housed their pit bulls in a vacant West Baltimore rowhome:  1616 N. Gilmor Street (Baltimore City Council District 7).  The house is owned by Olivia Anderson of the same address.

The incident with Phoenix further illustrates the need for the city to clean up its act with regard to vacant property.  According to ASA Jennifer Rallo, the police found signs of dogs and gang activity at the Gilmor Street house –  another result of Broken Window Syndrome.  Hopefully this case will not only serve as a warning to those who abuse animals, it will serve as a warning to the city.  Allowing homes to remain vacant and unsecured is simply another link in the chain of criminal behavior that keeps Baltimore City in its third-class city status.  If we are to ever become a first-rate city, we have to tackle the problem of housing, with sustainable and well thought-out methods.
