This house is in terrible shape, and in danger of collapsing. Since it’s attached to two other homes, we encourage those property owners to call the city and complain. The front wall is bowed in the front, and the house needs to be torn down.

We’ve written about these two homes so many times, as they’re both owned by shell companies controlled by Stanley Rochkind. We have to wonder what kind of message the city is sending to this neighborhood, with their lack of action against the property owner. We’ve been writing about these two houses since February of this year — and a few of the neighbors have filed multiple complaints. Yet here the properties are in their current state. We wonder if Baltimore City is capable of doing any better than this.
Currently both homes have STOP WORK orders attached to them — and both homes are in terrible disrepair, and open to vagrants. The windows and doors are broken — 1003 is completely open in the rear of the property, and has no roof. The front door to 1005 has been off its hinges for at least two months, if not more.

Broken window on 1003 - note there is no roof or rear wall visible from the window.

Front door of 1005 S. Carey Street - property has been open to vagrants for months.

This property is owned by a yet another Baltimore City drug dealer — unlike Milton Tillman, Jr., and George A. Dangerfield, Jr. however, Mr. Green seems to be a small-time dealer with limited means. (And a bad temper, according to his criminal activities). Not someone who needs to own slum property in an already marginal neighborhood.

Yet another abandoned home in Baltimore is destroyed by fire — two men were trapped inside, according to ABC2 News. (Unfortunately, they say the fire was in Southeast Baltimore, when S. Carey Street is actually in Southwest Baltimore.) One man was seriously injured, the other man died. The house had previously been the subject of a foreclosure proceeding. The home has been vacant for at least 5 years, according to a neighbor.

Property owner: Sukaenot Oluwaremilekun Alamuta, 4 S. Carey Street, Baltimore, MD 21223 (SDAT has the wrong address for Mr. Alamuta — his address is actually 47 Peabody Street, NE, Washington, DC 20011).

We wonder if it was arson...
If any information about the two men caught in the fire comes up, we’ll be sure to update this post.

We’ve been spending quite a bit of time focusing on SW and W Baltimore lately. It seems this area has a certain amount of potential that’s being wasted, due to the increasing crime rate and number of abandoned homes. Perhaps one day the city will wake up and collectively realize that it is losing so many decent, tax-paying residents as a result of the inertia that has taken hold of parts of Baltimore. We hope this changes, in a sustainable, thoughtful way.
The “Believe” sticker on the front of this house only adds to the lunacy.

Located on block with other boarded-up homes, this one seems to blend right in with its landscape in Washington Village. It’s unfortunate that this block can’t seem to get a head start when it comes to combatting blight and trash. This part of Washington Boulevard also seems to be quite a haven for drugs and prostitution.

Only one of many boarded-up blighted homes in the 1500 block of McHenry Street in Southwest Baltimore. Despite numerous emails to Agnes Welch’s office, we have never received the courtesy of a response when we’ve inquired about her plans to improve her district. The property owner has been involved in the usual slumlord legal stew of injunctions, failure to maintain his property, etc.
