The Block of Blight Revisited: 1448-1458 Wicomico Street

The third in our “Properties Revisited” series, we’re sad to see that the City has done nothing to improve the situation on this block of Wicomico Street.  The houses are still boarded up, vacant, and full of trash.  They’re also accessible to vagrants and others, as evidenced by the amount of trash that’s accumulated in just a few short weeks. The rear yard of 1452 is particularly troublesome to us, because we suspect someone is using this area to store stolen goods.  There are more amplifiers/speakers added to the pile, along with a bicycle that seems relatively new.  We can’t understand why the city hasn’t come by to at least collect their road cone from the neighboring property.  Surely the city doesn’t have an unlimited road cone budget.

Here are some photos we took yesterday (February 21, 2009):

I e-mailed City Councilman Ed Reisinger describing these dilapidated homes on Wicomico Street (also linking to this blog) because I thought this was in his district. Turns out this property is in the 9th District which belongs to Agnes Welch. Mr. Reisinger’s office forwarded my e-mail to Ms. Welch’s office without so much as a “thank you for your concern.”

No response yet from Agnes Welch’s office.
