Abandoned Home Burns, One Man Dies in SW Baltimore

Yet another abandoned home in Baltimore is destroyed by fire — two men were trapped inside, according to ABC2 News.  (Unfortunately, they say the fire was in Southeast Baltimore, when S. Carey Street is actually in Southwest Baltimore.)  One man was seriously injured, the other man died.  The house had previously been the subject of a foreclosure proceeding.  The home has been vacant for at least 5 years, according to a neighbor.

Property address:  4 S. Carey Street, Baltimore, MD 21223

Property owner:  Sukaenot Oluwaremilekun Alamuta, 4 S. Carey Street, Baltimore, MD 21223 (SDAT has the wrong address for Mr. Alamuta — his address is actually 47 Peabody Street, NE, Washington, DC 20011).

City Council District and contact:  District 9, Agnes Welch

We wonder if it was arson...

If any information about the two men caught in the fire comes up, we’ll be sure to update this post.

That is sad.I wonder if they were living in an abandoned building at the time. Were they squatter living in the building at the time?I think that they ought to put the landlords who own these abandoned buildings faces on billboards and embarass them.

It’s been our experience that most of the slumlords in Baltimore are pretty shameless. You could put them on TV and they wouldn’t care.
