It’s always a shame to walk around neighborhoods in Baltimore and see all of the blighted vacant homes. It’s even more disturbing when they’re of great historic significance, like Upton Mansion.  As if that wasn’t bad enough — this grand home is owned by the City, and has obviously been neglected for quite some time.

For a photo of this home in its heyday, and information on its history, visit Baltimore Heritage and West Baltimore Squares .

V2V has received proposals on Upton Mansion and they are currently under review. City should decide by Jan 1st who will get this property and for what purpose it will be rehabilitated.

I really hope whoever takes possession of this property uses it for something other than a rehab facility, senior apartments (that’s what the Sellers Mansion was supposed to be) or some other social welfare program. It needs to be something that benefits the entire community, like a rec center. And it needs to actually get done, unlike the Sellers Mansion, which will eventually fall down.
