Thanks to “Reader BN” for this submission — here’s the back story:
It has sat vacant for quite some time. It used to be a greasy spoon breakfast and lunch establishment, but the business closed abruptly about a year or two ago. Since that time, the building had been sitting empty and locked as I would see it occasionally if I walked down Park Ave on my way home from work. Until yesterday I hadn’t taken that route home in a few weeks and that is when I noticed all of the windows busted out of the door and the lock hanging from the door. I reported it to 311 via the smartphone app and the ticket has been closed with no violation found.
I went back by on Friday afternoon and noticed a construction crew doing demolition on the former Greyhound bus station located on West Fayette. They were set up right next to the building so I asked them if they knew anything about the building. They told me that they reported the building to a police officer about a week ago. The police officer told them that he would report and have someone out by 3pm to board it up. Obviously no one ever came. They also told me that while the building is city owned it is not part of the BDC project they are working on, they reported the building to a BDC employee who was onsite with them yesterday. She also took pictures.
