1326 Hollins Street

Property Address:  1326 Hollins Street, Baltimore, MD 21223

Property Owner:  Darmay Tolliver, same address (home is not listed as owner-occupied).

City Council District and Contact:  District 9, “Pistol” Pete Welch

State Senator:  Verna Jones Rodwell

State Delegates:  Keith Haynes, Keiffer Mitchell Jr, Melvin Stukes

Thanks to Reader SS for sending the pics and information — the woman who owns this home apparently owns several in the neighborhood, catering to clients of BBH, the controversial drug treatment facility that’s been a problem to the neighbors of Pigtown, Hollins Market, and Union Square for years.  Reader SS accurately describes 1326 Hollins Street as “The House of Trash”.

Yes, see Steven’s expert clarification. Baltimore has many addresses that were consolidated or no longer exist — I remember one day standing on a street, in front of a large warehouse with the number clearly marked. Took pictures of it, came home and looked it up — NO SUCH STREET EXISTED. what? How could this be? I WAS THERE. Went back again, same street — I hadn’t made a mistake. Came back home again — DOES NOT EXIST. I felt like I was in a parallel Baltimore.

In case folks in this neighborhood are saying to themselves – “This property doesn’t look like this” – As I have been walking around the neighborhood, I found this property along with some other ones on Booth Street. When I saw the posting yesterday, I was glad someone had got it up so we can see what kind of nuisnace properties there are in Union Square – if you haven’t been out there…you really should take a look. Its really bad. There is a garage out there that is full of trash also. When I saw the posting, I originally thought the same thing…cause it sure doesn’t look like 1326 that I walk past. So, I walked to the property yesterday and then looked it up using the cities SDAT and land use system. To my surprise – The building is actually 1326 Hollins Street. The house in question is part of the title – there is no two houses titled separately. The house is on the length of the 1326 Hollins property…so that means, the owner of 1326 is responsible for the “House of Trash”. Im gonna double check using some of the old city maps and measuring the lot when I have time but I am pretty sure. This is the kind of work and research I do on a daily basis.

Thanks Steve, I see now that the house is located on Booth Street. Talk about hiding your problems in the alley…
On the 1901 Sanborn Map, the houses are located on the same lot, but the one at the rear is addressed 1327 Booth Street.

In what other city would authorities see this (I assume police have been in the neighborhood) and do nothing about it?! This is unbelievable, and I mean that literally: if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe it. Shame on you, Baltimore. Thank you for putting this out there. Maybe someone will pay attention?

I don’t think this could happen on such a wide scale anywhere besides Baltimore, sad to say. The city knows this is happening in just about every neighborhood…yet bad property owners continue to get away with this stuff. Maybe if they’d throw a few of the worst offenders in jail, it would stop.
